Surprise, Surprise

January 28th, 2008 Posted in Uncategorized

Teemu Selanne has returned to the Anaheim Ducks in an effort to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.

Wow, I’m just so shocked, this totally came out of the blue. Scott Niedermayer AND Teemu Selanne somehow managed to find a loophole around the salary cap to return to the Anaheim Ducks.

Brian Burke had this to say to TSN: “It took Teemu several months to determine if he had the passion and determination to return to the NHL, and we are thrilled to have him back,”

Come on, Burkie, you honestly expect us to believe that Niedermayer and Selanne deliberated for several months as to if they were going to come back?

Let’s be honest here. This plan was hatched long before training camp ever began back in September. Burke probably pulled the two aside, said “Hey, I’ve got a great idea. We’ll let you both take a four month vacation, I’ll sign Mathieu Schneider and Todd Bertuzzi and in January we’ll bring you both back and we’ll have an amazing team that’ll walk all over the NHL in the playoffs.”

Mr. Burke, I can understand you wanting to come off as a genius; the plan itself is well thought-out and conniving. But don’t try to tell us that this whole situation was a result of Niedermayer and Selanne “contemplating retirement” for four freaking months. At least have the decency to give us the truth.

I absolutely HATE the ducks. i saw this coming. Whats funny is, we never hear it here in FRICKEN ORANGE COUNTY but its huge news in Vancouver. Shows how much hockey is respected here. I mean, honestly, this is completely unfair to the other 29 teams. Why are these “UFA’s” contemplating retirement but STILL “Ducks only” property?! There should be some type of waiver wire system where, if a player decides to return to the NHL more than a certain time after the beginning of the season, all teams should have a shot at claiming them. It’s not fair that these assholes can rig the system of salary caps.
