5 Things I’m Sick of Hearing

February 2nd, 2008 Posted in Uncategorized

Here comes the rant: There are five things that I’m sick of listening to and debating in the NHL. They are, in order:

1. Where is Mats Sundin going? - Honestly, don’t be surprised if he doesn’t get moved at all. While interim GM Cliff Fletcher has his sights set on rebuilding a disaster of a franchise, Mats Sundin looks like he only wants to play in Toronto. Even as a playoff rental, I get the feeling that Sundin wouldn’t put his heart into winning on a team not named the Maple Leafs. His comfort zone has and always will be in the throng of TO, but if he really cared about the franchise he’ll consider being moved for three months.

2. Who will Peter Forsberg sign with? - The talk from October has been the issue of where Peter Forsberg will call home for the next two years. Colorado? Philadelphia? Vancouver? Calgary? The list is endless and with the media speculating relentlessly for the past four months, I’m just waiting for the day Forsberg signs with ANY NHL team.

3. Will they or won’t they? - Teemu Selanne and Scott Niedermayer’s supposed “retirement” was short-lived, but I have to tell you, having to hear Brian Burke moan on and on as to what they’re deciding made me a little sick to my stomach. Now that they’re both back, the NHL can finally stop debating the issue.

4. The Canucks need a scorer - Let’s face it, this issue has been haunting the Canucks ever since free agent season opened on July 1st and we’re still talking about the Canucks’ inept offense. Patience, people …

5. EIG and Katz - Three times the pharmaceutical billionare has tried to make an attempt to buy the Edmonton Oilers’ franchise and only on the third attempt is the EIG board willing to listen. Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and co. all believe it’s a good move for the Oilers to be sold to Katz, so let’s stop talking about it already!
