Shannon in Shootouts, Zednik Incident
February 10th, 2008 Posted in UncategorizedLet me start off with a bit of an unsettling note: What happened to Richard Zednik was just gruesome. To see that much blood spurt out of his severed artery was something out of a horror movie. And Olli Jokinen had it right — If I had it my way, I would’ve called the game. It was clear after the frightening incident that no player on the Sabres or Panthers lineup were focused on playing. That being said, it was a freak accident, and it was unfortunate it happed to Zednik. From what’s being said at this point in time he should make a full recovery.
This isn’t the first time the NHL has had a gruesome incident. Here’s a similar accident which happened to goaltender Clint Malarchuk. I should warn anyone that this is extremely graphic:
The Vancouver Canucks, meanwhile, had to play physical against the Blackhawks. After being outworked and outhustled the night before by a hungrier Avalanche team, it was absolutely essential they play a meaner game. Then I started scratching my head, wondering how in the world Ryan Shannon would be able to play physical. Turns out, I’m eating my words.
Now when the Canucks went with Ryan Shannon in the shootout, I was thinking one word: Spin-o-rama. Shannon’s brilliant effort against Nikolai Khabibulin isn’t the first time Shannon has gone with the Spin-o-rama; in fact, if anything, he’s an expert on it:
Shannon vs. Marty Turco:
Shannon vs. AHL All-Star Dany Sabourin:

That Zednik incident gave me shivers…very graphic. Scary to know that it could happen to goalies and a lot of them dont wear the neck protector like they should, Luongo being one of them.
Also, amazing goal by Shannon to win the shootout. Yeah he pulls that move a lot, but w/e works to win the game right? I remember back when We had Ruuto he did the same move every shootout too(fake the forehand, go to the back hand).
