Like Father, Like Son

March 24th, 2008 Posted in Uncategorized

Do you remember when NHL legend Patrick Roy and his Colorado Avalanche duked it out with the Detroit Red Wings? If you didn’t, let me help remind you of the intensity of one Patrick Roy:

Patrick Roy vs. Chris Osgood

Patrick Roy vs. Mike Vernon

Patrick Roy vs. Dominik Hasek

In other words, it was a pretty heated brawl between Patrick Roy and the Detroit Red Wings goaltender — whoever they had between the pipes!

And it looks as though Roy is attempting to show his 17 year old son Jonathan Roy, a goaltender, how to brawl. Patrick, who is the head coach of the 2006 Memorial Cup champion Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL, was coaching his Remparts in a playoff series against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens; the game was long lost as the Remparts were down 7-1 in the third period when several skirmishes started to break out. Players picked dancing partners and it didn’t take long for Jonathan Roy to skate out to centre ice to challenge Chicoutimi goaltender Bobby Nadeau. After the referee most likely told Roy not to fight, the referee skated off to the Quebec blueline to break up another brawl. Evidently, Jonathan Roy had a change of heart and skated hard at Nadeau, tackling him to the ice.

And if words isn’t enough to explain the sickening display of hockey, here’s the Youtube video of Jonathan Roy, looking like … well, a young Patrick Roy.

Look closely afterwards and you can see that Jonathan Roy is flipping the bird to the people in attendance. His attitude is akin to that of his father’s. His remorseless aggression and God complex is clearly evident. His actions, very similar to his father’s: His body language is saying “I’m going out there and I’m going to be the best, even if I have to beat your brains out to prove it”. Suspensions and fines are most likely ahead, but it’s clear that just when you thought that Patrick Roy’s impact on hockey had diminished to a role of coaching, this happens. Like father, like son, I suppose.

What a douchebag. The other goalie didn’t even wanna fight, and Roy just skates over there and beats his brains in. I hope the next game these guys play, the best fighter on the other team fights Roy and destroys him.

At least when Patrick fought, the other goalie wanted to fight and didn’t have to get jumped…

u should see Patrick Roy out there, they did a close up on TSN, and he COMMANDED his son to do that (he was on the bench, he couches that team)

What is funny though is when both goalies are tangled and teh ref comes in with a player to stop Roy, they trip on the goalie’s pad and go sliding into the boards.

So Patrick Roy got suspended for 5 games, and his kid for 7. That’s a lot for the playoffs, I think they definitely deserved it. And Matt, how come you never reply to anyone’s comments??
