Defending Sean Avery
April 14th, 2008 Posted in NHLThat’s right, I said it. Folks, look outside your window and make sure you’re not seeing curly-tailed oinkers sprouting wings.
Look, I could go on and on about how much I disrespect Sean Avery. I have no problem saying it: The guy is an absolute disgrace to everything that is hockey. And to be sure that you all know what I’m talking about, here is just a sample of the stupidity that is Sean Avery.
Sean Avery is an asshole, in every sense of the word.
But he’s damn well talented.
Sean Avery enjoys the role of being the NHL’s most hated player. He doesn’t care if you don’t respect him, he goes out there and does what he does best, and that is play like a total s*** disturber. He’ll kick you when you’re down just to get you off your game. He’ll turtle in a fight just to make you even more upset that you can’t get the best of him. Sean Avery is like an NHL coach’s idea of employing psychological warfare. And on top of that, he’s not like your average goon in the sense that he can still play hockey.
Which brings me to Sean Avery’s latest tactic. If you didn’t see it, last night in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup quarterfinal between New Jersey and Avery’s New York Rangers, during a 5-on-3 powerplay, Sean Avery screened Brodeur in ways that you can’t even imagine. Take a look.
It was dirty, it was underhanded, and it was effective. It got Brodeur off his game and Avery made Brodeur pay only seconds later. And until the NHL gives the official word that Avery’s tactic deserves a penalty, there’s no reason to believe he won’t stop.
There’s the old saying that you have to “Do whatever it takes to win”, and quite simply, Avery did whatever it took when no one else on the Rangers would. Call it cheap, call it illegal, call it whatever you want, but don’t deny this fact: Sean Avery is both a douchebag AND quite possibly a genius.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I’m Pro-Avery. I for one appreciate his creativeness he did there and I applaud Avery for finding a loophole in the rules! Avery sells the game of hockey well by making it more entertaining to watch…anyone who disagrees is a lame ass lol

well, they changed the rules, so thats out the window.
and for the record, i dont like sean avery, he turns hockey into a psychological game instead of a game of skill and teamwork.

I don’t think even a playoff goal can justify that. I mean, hurray he found a loophole, but he looked like a Pee-Wee level player doing it. I mean I’ll grant him that he has some degree of talent…
But there is kind of a reason Avery is the only one stupid enough to think that up.

but hockey is a psychological game. any sport is. i think it’s just as important as skill and team work.
I don’t like the way Avery plays but it doesn’t mean it’s not affective. Like matt said, it’s retarded but he makes up for it by scoring goals.

Totally missed this post! Must comment.
I’ve never really minded Avery, I think players taunting the other team is as part of the game as anything, it’s just when he turtles in fights or does stupid shit like that that I think he’s a big cockhat. Still, I’d want him on my team.
