Post Your Playoff Predictions!
May 6th, 2008 Posted in NHLAnd then there were four. What started out as sixteen has now dwindled to four teams and now we’re getting into the nitty gritty of the playoffs. The Conference Finals offer a wealth of outcomes and unlike the first and second rounds, don’t be surprised to see one or two upsets in the third round. Post your playoff predictions, as well as the series-ending game winners below! In addition, to help keep things interesting for those of you trailing behind… Post what you think will be the score in the FIRST GAME OF THE SERIES for an extra point!
The Bold Predictions
Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Dallas Stars (5): This is going to be a phenomenal series, I just know it. You thought the Stars/Sharks series was something? The Red Wings will be an even more formidable task. Whereas the Stars have been playing with a lot of heart and determination, the Red Wings are vastly superior in terms of speed and skill and have dominated the competition. This hasn’t gotten enough talk yet, but similar to the Penguins, Detroit has lost only two games in the postseason and steamrolled over the Avalanche in the second round. The MVPs of both teams have been clear: Johan Franzen has led the way for Detroit while the likes of Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom have all been there. Brenden Morrow has been fantastic for Dallas with Mike Ribeiro, Modano and Robidas all playing well. The difference in this series will come down to which defence can contain the opponent’s offence. DALLAS IN 6, BRENDEN MORROW WITH THE WINNER. DET takes Game One, 4-1.
Pittsburgh Penguins (2) vs. Philadelphia Flyers (6): This is going to be interesting, because these two teams live so closely together you have to think travel will not be a factor in the series outcome, but also home-ice advantage will be vital. Both teams play in hockey-mad cities and they are pretty evenly matched that the outcome might be based on home-ice advantage. Both M-A Fleury and Martin Biron have played lights out in the postseason and while there is no questioning the level of talent on Pittsburgh’s forward corps, the Flyers have had unlikely faces emerge as heroes. RJ Umberger has arrived as a front-line player for Philly at the perfect time. My prediction is based on the fact that Philadelphia is a much tougher team than Pittsburgh. FLYERS IN 7, HARTNELL WITH THE WINNER. Philadelphia takes Game One, 5-3.

These are hard to predict. For the Dallas Detroit series, I think Detroit had a comparatively easy time getting to the Conference Finals relative to Dallas. I think Dallas has an edge going into the series, and are gonna come out on top, although not easily.
Dallas in 7, Morrow with the winner, Game 1: Detroit 3 - Dallas 1
As for Pittsburgh and Philly, this series will be INTENSE! I’m cheering for the Pens, but it’s gonna be close. I’ll say Pens in 7, Malkin with the winner, Game 1: Philly 6 - Pittsburgh 5 (OT)
lmao, the game winners and game one predictions are so ridiculous. i’m hoping to fluke those out like i did with franzen
