I think this deal will be decided on 5 factors:
1. Does Bergfors develop into a top-6 player?
2. Does Cormier become a regular NHL contributor in, as you said, a top-9 role?
3. What does Atlanta get with the 1st rounder?
4. Do the Devils win the Cup with Kovy?
5. Does Kovy re-sign in NJ?

If 2 of #’s 1-3 happen, Atlanta came out OK. NJ needs either #4 or #5 to happen for this deal not to be a waste of assets.

I think there’s an outside chance Doughty will make it, but over Dan Boyle?

And you have BOTH Staal brothers up front! I agree Eric Staal could have a chance, and maybe even Jordan for his faceoff and penalty kill prowess, but they’d both be hard pressed to make it over Martin St. Louis, who I have as a virtual lock.
